Stopped by the de Young to check out
Ed Ruscha and the Great American West the other day. I tend to love his word pictures and be less keen on his buildings and landscapes. And this show is relatively light on the word pictures, relatively heavy on the buildings and landscapes. And yet I found much, very much, to enjoy. Give me big rooms full of art, relatively empty on a weekday afternoon, and donuts to dollars I'll discover I like even more than I thought I liked. That's just how it works.
