Adriana Villagran

I am quite taken with the recent work of Adriana Villagran. Perhaps you will be, too? One of the big things I think about when I think about abstract painting is: how do you make shapes that aren't shapes? My own amateurish attempts at this art form always end up falling into the circles and squares and triangles I learned in preschool (and then again in high school geometry) -- so it always strikes me as a great gift when artists are able to offer shapes that aren't the shapes we know; shapes our brains aren't expecting. Add to that an orange and chartreuse and pink color palette and you've sold me, every time.
