Bread Tie
Inspired by the work of artists Ari Bird and Lea Redmond -- each of whom has rendered her own inspired versions of this subject matter -- I drew a bread tie.

PINK SF
I am excited and honored to be part of PINK SF -- an art exhibition and fundraiser organized by the Pen + Ink Brigade, along with it's companion show PINK NYC. The bi-coastal effort includes over 80 amazing women artists and illustrators who have donated original art. All proceeds from the sale of the artworks (plus postcard packs) will be donated to Fair Fight 2020 -- the organisation started by Stacey Abrams to fight for free and fair elections.
The opening for PINK SF will be on Thursday, November 14th from 5-8pm at Industrious Life, 1095 Tennessee St., here in San Francisco. If you're local, I hope you can join us!
The art can also be purchased online right here. We are hoping to raise $25,000 from sales from these two shows. Give to charity and get great art. Win-win! Here are just a few of my favorite pieces from both shows to give you a taste of what you might get:

Color Poem #102
each christmas my mom used to buy
me the colored cardstock I draw on
until one day I had to buy it for myself
I managed not to cry that afternoon in
the stationery store but it was a near thing

Mabel's Second Five Halloweens
Mabel's Harry Potter devotion continued strong for its third year running, and here we see her brilliant rendition of Hermionie. Her devotion to this, her very favorite book series among a great many favorite book series, remains profound and true (which is why we broke down and bought her an light-up wand -- but really the funnest part was braiding her hair into lots of little braids the night before and then unbraiding in in the morning to give her those unruly Hermionie curls).
Here is a previous blog post featuring her first five Halloween costumes, and now I get to show you the next five. In reverse chronological order we have:
2019, age 9: Hermionie Granger
2018, age 8: Harry Potter
2017, age 7: Albus Dumbledore
2016, age 6: a fairy princess
2015, age 5: a dinosaur
She always knows just what she wants to be, months if not a whole year in advance. I could tell you what she's planning for next year, except that he must not be named.

At the Theater
I witnessed two of the most joyfully exuberant pieces of theater I've seen in a very long time, when I was in New York last month. They were: Moulin Rouge -- I've long been a fan of Baz Luhrmann in general and the movie Moulin Rouge in particular, and this stage show beautifully channeled the buoyant spirit of the original while also updating it with 15 years of additional pop songs. And the hip-hop-improve-comedy troupe Freestyle Love Supreme featuring, on the night I happened to be there, special guest star (and founding member) Lin-Manuel Miranda (!!). I don't have that many regrets in life, but there are certain New York things I do regret not having managed to get myself to (the Hilma af Klint show at the Guggenheim, for instance), and the original cast of Hamilton is at the tippy top of that list. So this felt as if a tiny bit of that deficit had now been made up.
