Now they’ve gone ahead
and torn the whole front off the building
that until not so very long ago
was Louie’s crappy bodega
Yesterday you could see right in
like looking into a shoe box set on its side
You never see that
It looked almost unreal
the set of a stage play
Curtain rises
the interior of a building under construction
piles of lumber
debris
equipment
ladders
Early morning light pours through three large skylights
clearly recently punched in the ceiling
and surrounded with new unfinished wood
most of the back wall is missing to reveal
more light
scraggly trees
the backs of other buildings
