Paris Day 11

Our last day in Paris! We woke up early and rode the deserted weekend subway out to Montmartre. We started walking up the hill but stopped half way up because what had we discovered? Rose Bakery! an astonishingly beautiful little place that we'd read about many many times in their gorgeous cookbook that we have at home, but somehow never thought to actually look for while we were in Paris. But there it was. Of course we stopped for a coffee and a treat and of course it was amazing. Then we hiked on up the hill passing various spots both ramshackle and posh, and a lot more bakeries--it is a neighborhood of bakeries--until we got to the top and the Sacre Couer about fifteen minutes ahead of the insane throngs of tourists soon to arrive. So we didn't stay there too long, but long enough for Mabel to ride the carousel all by her own, as she had grown accustomed to doing on this trip. In the afternoon we stayed in, packing and getting ready to leave at the crack of dawn the next morning, and also enjoying a last bit of time in the beautiful apartment we'd called home for the past nine days.
