how does a person choose a color scheme?
why do you start with yellow and once started
know that pink and light blue must follow and
then from there only dark blue and red will do?

New Office

I recently moved from my long-time desk at Chronicle Books to a new office. This was a very exciting development and I had a heck of a good time decorating. Lamps and light sources, storage, and picture frames were my big priorities, and a few co-workers convinced me to get a snake plant which everyone, even including the delightfully fussy plant store man, swears to god even I cannot kill. Fingers crossed! Anyhow, here's what it looks like --

A Fifth Year of Pies

So the other day I was like, oh, oops, I forgot to do a post on Bill's year of pies. But then I got thinking, and looking back in the archives, and I realized, not only had I forgotten for a couple months to do the 2018 post, I apparently also somehow forgot for over a year to do the 2017 post! What a remiss spouse-of-a-monthly-pie-maker I am! But now I am here to rectify the error. Suffice to say, Bill makes a pie every month and has been for over five years and I document them. You can see previous years here: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016. And 2018 should go up soon. Bill's pies are delicious. Here is his fifth annual crop:

Stationery

I drew a selection of journals and stationery published by Chronicle Books. Discerning observers may have guessed that there's a publishing theme going on in my recent drawings. They are for a project I have in train, about which I'll no doubt chatter more here in due course.

Kelly Tunstall and Ferris Plock at Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous

It was a while back that we stopped in to Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous for ice cream and spotted this mural by Kelly Tunstall and Ferris Plock (known collectively as KeFe). But it's stuck in my mind ever since. Digging out the photo and looking at it now I can see why. It just makes a person happy.

You're Invited! Art Show Opening and Book(s) Launch Party!

Next Thursday, March 7th, there will be an art show opening for my new show "How Was Your Day? 50 Drawings by Bridget Watson Payne" that will also be a book launch party for my two new books How Was Your Day? and The Secret Art of Being a Parent. It will be at Open Studio, 780 Sutter Street in San Francisco, from 6-9 pm, and you are most heartily invited to join us! The event is being put on in conjunction with the SF First Thursday Lower Polk and Tenderloin Art Walk (I am super excited and honored to be part of this great neighborhood tradition) and Chronicle Books. There will be snacks and drinks and shopping and mingling. If you're local, I hope to see you there!
