The Joys of Good Publicity, F15 Edition

Now that the madness of the Fall publishing season is starting to settle down--in one of book publishing's many quirks, Fall includes both fall and winter (actually all the way up through February) but the majority of the big books are published, and publicized, in September, October, and November to lead up to the big madness of holiday shopping--it's the perfect moment to reflect upon the joys books that get good press. Of course there are many other ways that books succeed--selling zillions of copies being the main one, along with social media buzz, author promotion, honors and awards, bookseller love, good old fashioned word of mouth, and so forth--but for the kind of big beautiful art book that is one of the kinds of books I work on, attention in the print and online media is especially pleasing. So, here are three big Fall books of mine that have seen those sorts of kudos to a lovely degree:

First up Art + Fashion by E.P. Cutler and Julien Tomasello. This one was featured in Elle (clipping above), OutThe Daily Beast, NY Mag, the New York Times T Style blog and Sunday Styles section, Library Journal, the San Francisco Chronicle, and New York Journal of Books, as well as in the UK Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, and the Telegraph, and Harper's Bazaar in the Ukraine.

Next up, Earth and Space: Photographs from the Archives of NASA preface by Bill Nye, text by Nirmala Nataraj. This gorgeous book was covered by Entertainement Weekly (above), Wired, Publisher's Weekly, BookPage, the LA Times, Buzzfeed, and House Beautiful (where it was featured on a “palettes” page, where readers were encouraged to decorate their homes in the colors of the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex!).

Finally, Radical Love by Toni Greaves received wide-ranging love in Photo District News (above), the Huffington Post, ABCnews.com, Yahoo, the American Society of Media Photographers Bulletin, and the New York Times style section and Lens Blog.
