I'm a sucker for portrait photography; I'm the mother of a daughter in this still crazily sexist world we find ourselves living in (if you doubt it, just try shopping for toddler underpants sometime); and like most little girls I went through a horse phase in my own youth. All of these things conspired to more or less guarantee I was going to fall in love with Ilona Szwarc's photos of young cowgirls currently doing their thing in the Texas Panhandle. Originally featured on the New York Times site, where many more of her brilliant images can be viewed. But these ones here are a few of my favorites.
